Donald E. Purdy Obituary
Donald Ervin Purdy, age 85 passed away at Maine General Hospital with family by his side on September 6, 2017 after a brief illness. Born and raised in Gardiner, he was a Barber whose shops were fixtures on Water Street in Augusta for over 50 years. He retired at age 81. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and achieved the rank of Staff Sargent as a Camera Repairman. While stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana he met and married Mildred (Millie) Fusilier on May 8th, 1954 in Sweet Lake, LA. They were married for 49 years at her passing in 2003. His interests were history, shooting and weaponries, cars and motorcycles. He was active in the Colburn Militia, and involved in revolutionary war reenactments. His hobbies included leathercraft, radio controlled aircraft and he dabbled in painting prior to his retirement. He is predeceased by his wife, Mildred, son Tim A. Purdy, and daughter Donna Marie Purdy. He is survived by son Ted J. Purdy and wife Mary of Claremont, NH, son Todd M. Purdy of Holiday FL, daughter in law Gisele Albert Beaudoin of Augusta; grandchildren Nicholas C. Purdy of Charlotte, NC, Moriah L. Kirdy and her husband Tim of Pittsburgh PA, Maeghan Purdy Haas and her husband Lee of Winthrop, and Madison P. Purdy of Augusta. Visiting hours will be from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm on Friday, September 15th at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gardiner Public Library or the Riverview Congregational Church, South Gardiner.
