Elsie Marion (Chase) Peacock passed away surrounded by her loving family at Glenridge Nursing Home on March 23, 2018.
Elsie was born in Augusta Maine on March 9, 1925, daughter of Eugene and Mertie (Brookings) Chase.
She graduated from Gardiner High School with the class of 1943, and continued her education at the Augusta School of Commerce. After completing her secretarial training she acquired a position at the State of Maine Forestry Department.
Elsie and Richard married on November 22, 1945, they resided in Gardiner and raised their six children.
She dedicated her life to helping and caring for children. She was a beloved teachers aid for MSAD #11 for 20 years, and lovingly known as “Gram” to staff and students at Helen Thompson Elementary School in West Gardiner, for 17 years. Elsie was part of “The Old Group” consisting of retired teaching staff who met for lunch on occasion.
She is predeceased by her parents Eugene and Mertie Chase; husband Richard Peacock; brother Bob Chase; daughter Carol Towle; daughter-in-law Brenda Peacock; and son-in-law Richard Swanson.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Margie and Phil Marston; sister-in-law Lucille Peacock; daughters Jane Grotton, Linda Swanson; sons John Peacock, Steve Peacock, Doug Peacock; son-in-law Rocky Towle, Pete Lovell; Daughter-in-law Debbie Peacock; eleven grandchildren Ronda Tarbox, Ronnie Towle, Becky Taylor, Wendy Tate, Katie Grotton, Emily Giampetruzzi, Molly Fish, Michael Stevenson, Kylie Peacock, Haylie Peacock, Brady Peacock; 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Libby Hill Cemetery, date to be announced later in spring.
