EVELYN LORAINE (GIBBS) FISH
1931 - 2017
RANDOLPH - Evelyn Loraine (Gibbs) Fish, 86 of Windsor St. died on Monday, May 22, 2017, with her family by her side.
She was born in Wiscasset on April 11, 1931. She was raised by her grandparents Ulysses and Ida Gibbs on the family farm in Wiscasset. She attended a one room school house as a child and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1949.
She enjoyed her rides down to Wiscasset to the Gibbs Road, to reminisce where the family home once stood. On one occasion, she cut some branches from the old rose bush and took them home to plant in her yard. That rose bush is still blossoming today.
Evelyn was a dedicated employee at Sears for 45 years, beginning her career at the original store on Water Street in Augusta and then moving to the Sears Turnpike Mall store. She had many good friends through her work, which she stayed in contact with throughout the years after her retirement.
Evelyn was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed having the family come for dinner and seeing everyone together. Her signature dishes and desserts will be well missed. When her sons were growing up, Evelyn was very involved in their youth activities in addition to her work schedule and maintaining her home. She especially loved her grandchildren, who always fought over whose turn it was to spend the weekend at Grammie Fish's house. Evelyn always made her grandchildren feel safe and at home and always gave that unconditional love to all of them. It wasn't always what they did, but that they spent valuable time together.
Her granddaughter, Jennifer Fish, was Grammie Fish's shadow!! You would always find them on Saturday's at Hannaford's doing the weekly grocery shopping. Evelyn attended many of Jen's Special Olympic events and was her biggest fan. Evelyn always treated Jen the same as her brothers and never gave her special treatment (though they may argue otherwise).
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Cecil Fish; grandparents Ulysses and Ida Gibbs; mother, Dorothy Gibbs, father, Clarence Gibbs, stepmother, Julia Gibbs; stepsister Jeannette Hanning and husband, Hubert Hanning.
Evelyn is survived by her sons Brian Fish of Randolph, Rudy Fish, Sr. and his wife Juanita (McKay) Fish of West Gardiner; grandchildren, Jennifer Fish of West Gardiner, Rudy Fish, Jr. of Gardiner, Ryan Fish and his wife Molly (Swanson) Fish of West Gardiner, and Parker White of Norridgewock; two great-grandchildren, Riley Fish and Bradley Fish of West Gardiner; stepsister Ruth Hunt of Norfolk, Va.; and niece, Linda Hanning.
A special thanks to Lucy Crocker and Lucille Damon, two very special ladies in Evelyn's life who checked in with her daily. A word of thanks and gratitude to Hospice for all they did for Evelyn and family.
At Evelyn's request, there will be no public visiting hours. There will be a graveside service for those who would like to join the family at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at Maple Grove Extension Cemetery, Route 226, Randolph. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Ave Gardiner
