Loraine C (Daigle) WrightAugust 15, 1928 ~ September 28, 2017 (age 89)
On September 28, 2017, Loraine C. Wright passed away at her home on Pleasant Pond in Litchfield, surrounded by her children. Loraine, or Rainey as she was best known, was born in Farmingdale, ME, on August 15, 1928, and was the daughter of William and Elsie James Daigle. She was one of seven children and grew up dividing her time between riding horses and doing farm chores in Farmingdale and working in her father’s grocery store in Gardner. Rainey attended Gardner High School and later earned her GED. During her teen years and on into adulthood Rainey was a member of the Daigle Sisters Quintet, performing at local talent shows and singing on the radio with her sisters Rita Garland, Mary Wright, Bertha Melnuk and Nancie Boudreau.
On December 25, 1945, Rainey married the love of her life, David C. Wright and they moved to Woolwich, ME, where they raised four children and ran the Texaco station. Upon retirement, Rainey and Dave moved to Litchfield, ME, where she became neighbors with her brother Norman Daigle and his family. During her retirement Rainey was able to hone her skills as a master gardener and developed a passion for playing golf, which she did up until this last year of her life.
Another one of Rainey’s passions was travel. She and her husband enjoyed many road trips and annual stays in Vermont with her brother John Daigle and his family. After her husband’s death, Rainey began to divide her time between Maine and Virginia where she lived with her daughters. And the last four years she traveled extensively with her sister Nancie Boudreau, where they have driven to Quebec and the Florida Keys as well as numerous trips to Vermont and Arcadia.
Rainey’s greatest passion in life, though, was family. And her family loved her dearly. She will be forever missed by her four children and their spouses: Elsie and James Daniels of Fredericksburg, VA, Steven and Barbara Wright of Fairfield, VA, Carol and Al Lavine of Lexington, VA, and Donna and James Cole of Wiscasset, ME. Also morning her loss are her thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Rainey lived life joyously but she had her share of sorrow. She was predeceased by her husband Dave, her son David Jr., her grandson Joshua Lavine and her great-grandson Braedon Farkas. In addition, she was predeceased by her brother John Daigle and sisters Rita Garland and Mary Wright.
Services for Loraine C. Wright will be held at Staples Funeral Home, Gardner, ME. Visiting hours are Sunday, October 8, from 4:00 to 6:00, and a Memorial Service October 9, at 11:00. Internment will be at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Woolwich ME. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, please plant a shrub or tree in your favorite spot.
