Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me
On the frosty morning of December 4th, surrounded by her three children, Marie Gallagher took her final breaths. Marie began her journey on March 14th, 1952, the daughter of Lillian and Philias Fortin. Marie was a proud sibling with twelve brothers and sisters - Joseph, Larry, Patrick, Reggie, Norman, Richard, Phil, Daniel, Barbara, Cecile, Irene, and Jeanne.
In 1972, she married Ron Gallagher Jr., of New London, Connecticut. Quickly she went to work, passionately creating a home that valued good music, tasty food, and dining room dancing. Marie spent much of her time dedicated to the loving care of her children, but also the many kids who were fortunate enough to call Chelsea their home.
No matter how many meals she cooked during the week, Saturday evenings were devoted to card games and dancing - Sundays were Patsy Cline and golden oldies, whiffle-ball and basketball games, followed by extravagant meals. Attendants to these meals were not limited to family. Friends, neighbors, strangers were all welcome. Often, plates needed to be held on laps since there was no space at the table.
Later in life, Marie dedicated her time to her adored seven grandchildren. She had an unending devotion to the fostering of imagination within her grandkids. Believing that, "children are the hope of the world," Marie's spirit is carried on by Maguire, Donald, Casey-Duke, Megan, Alex, Jamie, and Sam.
Marie's children, her son Ron and wife Allison, daughter Nicole and husband Jon, and son Shawn and wife Elizabeth, invite you to honor Marie's memory with a celebration of life to be held at the Staples Funeral Home on December 14th from 11-1 p.m.
The Gallagher family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses that gave endless support to our mother. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Maine General Hospice. In the words of our father, "Now how are we going to act?"
