Richard A GibersonAugust 30, 1923 ~ April 2, 2017 (age 93)
Richard A Giberson, “Gibey”, 93 of Phippsburg and Nobleboro passed away on Sunday, April 2 at Miles Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Gardiner on August 30, 1923, a son of Raymond and Leona Giberson.
Gibey attended Gardiner High School where he was a stand-out football player. After graduating, he married his wife of seventy years, Luella Landerkin and relocated to Chicago for naval training. After spending six years serving his country as a naval mechanic, Gibey and Luella returned home to Bath to raise their children, Sandra and Richard. After the children had grown, Gibey and Luella built their dream home in Phippsburg on the banks of the New Meadows River. They lived happily as active members of the Bright Water community until health concerns brought them to live their final years surrounded by children, grandchildren and great grand children at the home of their son in Nobleboro.
Gibey began his working life at the A&P in Bath. He later moved on to BIW starting first in the carpenters shop then moving into Human Resources. Gibey retired from BIW in 1985 and spent the rest of his life lobstering, being an active member of the Meadowbrook Yacht Club, and care taking for the Bright Water Association. He was also a dedicated volunteer for The Pine Tree Society and other local organizations.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Luella.
He is survived by his son Richard F. Giberson and wife Winnie Giberson of Nobleboro, his daughter Sandra Perkins of Dover Delaware, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 10th from 5 to 7pm at Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Avenue Gardiner. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11th at 11am at Staples Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place later this spring.
