Richard E O'Ben, SrSeptember 24, 1931 ~ March 19, 2017 (age 85)
West Gardiner: Richard E. O’Ben Sr.
Born at home in Randolph on September 24, 1931, the son of George and F. Georgia (Quimby) O’Ben. He attended schools in Randolph and Gardiner, Me. He served in Korea with the 1st Marine Division as a demolition expert, and was twice decorated for his expertise and valor for actions behind enemy lines.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 9, a member of American Legion Post 4, both of Gardiner; a life member of the DAV #1 of Augusta and the Marine Corps League; the Kennebec Valley Det., Me#599
He is survived by his wife Joan; three sons: George, Allen, and Richard Jr.; three daughters: Rhona LeBrecht, Virginia Drzewiecki and Cynthia Loprete; Two sisters: Norma Thompson and Virginia Duguay; also thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four sisters: Ruth O’Ben, Marjorie Brown, Mildred McKay and Sandra Collins; two brothers: Robert and Donald O’Ben; also a grandson: Marcus Stiles
He was devout in his faith, constant with his charity, and unwavering in his love and commitment to his family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 22 at 10:30am at the Lighthouse Baptist Church 108 Maple Street Farmingdale followed by Military Honors and burial at 1pm in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Mt Vernon Rd Augusta (not civic center drive)
