TOGUS - Richard "Frank" Spaulding Choate, 95, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2017, while at Togus Springs, Togus. He was born May 26, 1922, in Augusta, the son of Arthur and Mabel Richards Choate.
Richard was a World War II P.O.W. two times, and served in the European Eastern Theatre, serving in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe as a motorcycle messenger to the front line by direct way of General Patton. He received many honors and awards for his service with the United States Army.
He was a lifelong woodsman, builder, master electrician, Mason, member of the Oakland Pentacostal Church, and a member of the Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
Richard is survived by his wife of 76 years, Florence V. Choate, or Ginger, as he called her; three sons, David (Sandy), Roland (Sue), and William (Leanne); five grandchildren, RoseAnn (Scott), Nancy (Glenn), Roland (Allison), Debra (Bob), and William (Kim); and nine great-grandchildren, Tyler, Savanna, Abigail, Melissa, Anna, Jordan, Josh, Charlotte and Wyatt.
He was predeceased by one granddaughter, Tabitha; his parents; and his brother and sister.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Togus and Togus Springs for the excellent care and support they extended to Richard, his family and friends.
At Richard's request, there will be no visiting hours. Private military service will be held at Carter Cemetery in Farmingdale. Arrangements are in the care of Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner.
