Gardiner- Robert Paul Putek passed away March 12th at Grey Birch Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Augusta. He was born November 11, 1926 to Paul and Mealy (Millie) (Letrich) Putek.
Robert worked construction as a young man, eventually running a small mom and pop’s grocery and snack store with his wife for a few years. After, he worked in a mill, then part time painter which turned into a full time business. He then worked for Bachman Products until “retirement”. Robert worked at various car dealerships, finishing up at Darling’s Dealership before finally retiring well into his 80’s.
He was a passionate hunter and fisherman, especially bird hunting. He loved spending time at camp at Moxie Pond, boating, watching NASCAR. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time with family and friends.
Predeceased by his first wife Barbara Partelo in 1970, second wife Janet Hopkins in 2006, his parents, his sister Millicent Witkoske in 2016.
He is survived by his sons Glenn and his wife Diane Putek of Monson, MA, Ricky and his wife Terry of Benson North Carolina, and Jann Putek of Pittston, ME; 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren; 3 nieces, Sharon Chary of Florida, Holly McKinney and her husband Bob of Washington State, and Tammi Zwistowski and her husband Ed of Connecticut and close friend Rachel Johnson of Gardiner, and her daughter Janie and her husband Dave Bouchard; and many close friends.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday March 24th, from 11-2pm at Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, ME. A gathering will be held immediately after at Maple Hill Farm in 11 Inn Rd, Hallowell, ME. A private burial will take place in Monson, MA at a later date.
