GARDINER - Susan ("Sue") M. Farris, 69, of Gardiner, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Gardiner, on Feb. 10, 1948, to Howard and Sophia (Tobias) Cusick and remained in Gardiner until her passing.
She graduated from Gardiner High School in 1966 and attended the University of Maine. Sue worked in the finance department at Associated Grocers for many years, and later worked in admissions at Maine General Hospital until retiring in 2013.
Sue was an avid reader, especially enjoying books on historical and presidential events. She loved watching golf, tennis, the Red Sox, Patriots, and especially her beloved Celtics. Sue was known for her wonderful creations in the kitchen. Her Christmas butter cookies were anticipated by many each and every year.
Sue's kindness, loyalty and gentle nature were well known to her family, but through her two-year battle with cancer, her family realized how she touched so many lives. She was quick with a card, baked good, or phone call; she always knew how to brighten ones day. In her final months her friends from all stages in life returned her goodness, keeping her spirits high.
Her family is grateful for her 30-plus-year friendship with her best friend, Marge Lambert. Every summer they would take their well-anticipated trip to the beaches of southern Maine, with Marge insisting on "Driving Miss Daisy."
She was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Sean Farris, of Norwood, Mass.; Marc Farris and his wife Kelle, of Portland; her brother Thomas Cusick and his fiancée Judi Olson, of Round Pond; sisters Kathleen Cusick and her partner Reggie Faulkner, of Brewer; and Mary Cusick, of South Portland; nephew Christopher Holt, of South Portland; uncles Richard Cusick and his wife Ruth, of Augusta; and Edwin Tobias and his wife Joanne, of Chelsea; and many much-loved cousins.
Her family would like to thank the kind and generous staff at Maine General Home Care & Hospice who were not only caretakers but became friends, and Meals on Wheels, with special thanks to Dr. Mark and Mrs. Amy Cooper.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gardiner. A reception will follow at 93 Ganneston Drive, in Augusta.
