William (Bill) Laney
1932 – 2017
William (Bill) Laney, the son of Linwood and Harriet Laney, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2017. He was born on June 4, 1932 in Gardiner, Maine. He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1950. He proudly served 5 years in the Army, including time in the Korean Conflict and in Alaska.
Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betsy Laney; his three daughters and their spouses, Donna and Rick Farrell, Tammy and Bill Williams, and Tawny Laney; one granddaughter, Alexa Williams; his brother and his spouse, Richard and Lorna Laney; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruthann Carson.
Bill truly enjoyed the outdoors, especially riding motorcycles, 4-wheeling, canoeing, camping, and taking road trips through the Northwoods. He adored his dogs, never being without one by his side.
Bill spent his career in sales and made many life-long friends while selling them a car, motorcycle, or gun. He owned and managed several motorcycle shops, and was sought out by many for his immense knowledge on motorcycles. Prior to retiring, he owned and operated Hawk-n-Horn Muzzle Loading in West Gardiner for 15 years. He was well-respected for his knowledge of guns and his willingness to educate others in the sport.
There will be a private burial at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. A celebration of his life will be held at the Gardiner Sportsman's Club on May 15th at 2:30 p.m.
