Andrew Frederick Stevens, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in West Gardiner with his family at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The son of Fred and Marion Stevens, Andy was born in Gardiner on March 12, 1939. He was predeceased by his first wife, Judith Ann Stevens of West Gardiner.
Andy enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, fishing, and camping, and spent two weeks of each year for over 45 years at a campground next to the ocean in South Thomaston, Maine. He also enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, canning, and taking care of his pet rooster, Charlie.
A hard worker, Andy was a nurse by trade and worked for nearly 50 years at the Gardiner hospital, Maine General, and Gray Birch.
Andy is survived by his wife Alice Stevens of West Gardiner. His children Randall Stevens, of Augusta, Maine, Charlotte, Yumiko, and Shawn Warren of Hallowell, Maine and Wendy Warren of Rockland, Maine, His Grandchildren, Seth Stevens, Brittany Stevens, Hannah and Mara Kavanaugh, and Alicia and Akira Warren. Great grandchildren Jalyn Stevens, Alyssa Stevens, Cameron Stevens, Jazmine Stevens, and Jada Stevens and cousin Georgia Wrona and husband John.
A gathering will be held at the Wayside Chapel following a graveside service in the spring.
