October 2, 1946 ~ February 3, 2018 (age 71)

Gardiner-Judith (Judy) Suzette McKay, died February 3, 2018 at MaineGeneral Gray Birch Nursing Home in Augusta after a long illness following a stroke in October of 2012. Judy was born October 2, 1946, in Gardiner, daughter of the late Clarence Frederick McKay, Sr., and Irene Castle (Chadbourne) McKay.

She attended Gardiner schools and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1964, where she was actively involved with the music program. She also attended the University of Maine in Augusta and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1991. She worked throughout her life having various jobs such as a cake decorator, learning her craft from McDonald’s Bakery in Gardiner, making up to five wedding cakes on some weekends. She was beloved by many students at Gardiner Area High School where she worked as a Substitute Teacher in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. She also loved to work as an accountant, and worked for various companies, and near the end of her career, she spent much of her time working independently for Gosline-Murchie Insurance, Gosline Hardware, Smith-Wiley American Legion Post 4, State Farm Insurance and Isamax Snacks.

Judy was also very talented and would spend many nights watching movies quilting, knitting sweaters, or making afghans for various family members whom she loved very much. She was also a very talented cook, just like her father, never measuring anything, doing all by hand, and yet having everything taste great. Some of her favorite things to cook which she has passed onto her grandchildren are Shepherd’s Pie, Broccoli Chicken Cheese Soup, Broccoli Chicken Divan, and various cookie recipes.

Judy was predeceased by her parents Clarence Frederick McKay, Sr. and Irene Castle (Chadbourne) McKay; infant brother Timothy James; grandparents Leonard & Virginia McKay, and Merle & Berle Chadbourne, nephew Christopher Robinson, great-niece Paitn Verrill, and great-nephew Kayden Devine.

Judy is survived by her only son, Reverend Todd Matthew McKay, Sr., his wife Hannah, and their three kids, Sarah Elizabeth, Todd Matthew, Jr., and Rebekah Anne. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and they remember the good times of cooking, playing Uno, Skip-Bo, and Scrabble with their Ninny.

She is survived by her sisters Virginia McKay, Nancy and spouse Robert LeClair, Donnetta and spouse Daniel Jamison, Rose and spouse Richard McGibney, Cecilia and spouse Fred Cunningham, Elizabeth and spouse Reginald Cooley, Mary and spouse Ted Purdy, Anita and spouse Jay Folckemer, Juanita and spouse Rudy Fish, Teresa and spouse Scott Hathaway and Patricia and spouse G. Nelson Gosline. She is survived by her brothers Clarence F. McKay, Jr. and spouse Marcia, Paul McKay, and Leonard McKay and his spouse LeeAnn.
