Peter was born in Saco, Me., to John V and Beatrice (Gilman) McCollett. He was the third of seven children. Always known to be a hard worker and great provider, some of Peter’s fondest memories (aside from the birth of his children) were of working with his dad and brother David in the family contracting business, J.V. Together they raised nine biological children and served as foster parents for twenty seven years to many wonderful foster children. Their home was filled with love and happiness as well as a popular gathering place for friends and neighborhood kids.

Peter was predeceased by his son Brett, his parents, brothers Donald, David, and John, sisters Mercedes, Mary and Marilyn.

He is survived by his wife and best friend Barb, his children, Mary, Steve, Pete, Barb, Eric, Chris, Kurt, Tony and Nick his grandson, who was like a son, two special daughters Kristina and Jessica, and his brother Mike, 25 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Peter’s greatest joys were his wife and children as well as his service for the Lord as deacon at South Gardiner Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing, beating Barb at cribbage, and drinking his favorite drink Moxie.

There will be no visiting hours. A service will be held at the South Gardiner Baptist Church, 641 River Road on Saturday March 10th at 11am.
