WEST GARDINER - William C. Emery, 84, of West Gardiner, passed away on Oct. 18, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.
William was born on Dec. 17, 1932, to Charles Werton and Mary Ann (Fraiser) Emery. He married Gerturde N. Fuller on Saturday, August 7, 1954 at the Wayside Chapel in West Gardiner. After serving on the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 as a boiler man, he went to work as a meat cutter. He worked with family members cutting wildlife, and then went to work for Sampsons Supermarkets, where he retired for the first time. Missing the customers, he went to work for a local store in Litchfield, and then to Fullers Market where he retired at the age of 80.
William loved hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. He was an active member in the West Gardiner Historical Society as well as a life member of the West Gardiner Rod and Gun Club.
William is survived by his wife Gertrude of 63 years; his two children Bob Emery of West Gardiner, Diane (Emery) and Fred Thompson of Gardiner; three grandchildren, William Emery of West Gardiner, Elyse (Emery) and Lee Galles of Wales, and Judith (Thompson) and Jesse Welch of Rochester, N.H.; four great-grandchildren, Olivia and Fiona Welch, and Bella and Emery Galles; one sister, Gloria (Emery) Labbe; several nieces, nephews; and other family members.
Visiting will be Sunday Oct. 22, from 1 - 2:30 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner. Immediately following there will be a graveside service at Friends Cemetery in West Gardiner.
