Carlton Light Obituary (1934 - 2013)

Gardiner- Carlton Light died May 22nd at his home 215 Highland Avenue, Gardiner, with his family by his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Somerville, Maine on May 5’Th 1934 the son of George Kendrick Light and Marion (Brann) Light. He attended Somerville School and Augusta Schools graduating from Cony High School in the class of 1952. Carlton joined the Army and served from 1954 to 1956. Carlton worked for several construction companies and worked as a painter/paper hanger employed by Wendell Niles Painting Contractors in Sidney for many years. In 1980 he was self employed as the owner of Chelsea Market until retiring in 1995. Carlton enjoyed many hobbies including wood work, carpentry, home remodeling, fishing, hunting, and watching the PGA Golf Tournaments. He always liked sail boats and enjoyed sailing his boat on Moosehead Lake. But most of all, he loved his family, especially the time he spent with grandchildren who lovingly called him papa. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Barbara Crummett and husband Orrin (Buddy) Crummett of Somerville and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Kathryn Byrne Light, three children Rhonda Smith and husband Jerald Smith, Susan Fields and husband John Fields, Kevin Light and wife Lisa; three grandchildren, Jerad, Jessica, and Allizah; A brother Harold Light and wife Angie; his uncle Leon Emery and wife Faye; and two aunts Wanda Brann and Velma Withee and several nieces and nephews. He will always be loved and missed by his family. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Sand Hill cemetery in Somerville.
