Mrs. Betty Warren Obituary (1930 - 2011)

Pittston - Mrs. Betty Warren, 80, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at home after a period of failing health.She was born at the home of her grandparents, Lorenzo and Josephine Hanscom, on the Nash Road, Pittston, on August 23, 1930 the daughter of Elizabeth Stone Hanscom and Norman Robert McKenzie. Betty married Daniel H. Warren at his family home on the Warren Road, Pittston on April 12, 1947. They have resided in Pittston ever since,except for a few years spent at Pleasant Pond, Richmond. As a child, Betty and her mother moved often. She told of living in Pittston, Farmingdale, Gardiner, Mt. Chase, Patten, Millinocket, Bangor area, Richmond, Bowdoinham, The Forks, and Lawrence, Mass. and how she attended 28 different grammar schools and Coburn Classical Institute, Waterville. Betty attended the East Pittston United Methodist Church for many years where she, her son daughter and grandson were baptized. More recently she became a member of the Gardiner Free Methodist Church and was active in a variety of church activities. Her work career included White's Laundry, Gardiner General Hospital and the Gardiner Shoe Co. Her most rewarding work was providing at home health care and companionship for a variety of elderly clients who waited anxiously for her daily visits. While most of her life revolved around work, she and her husband Dan especially enjoyed snowmobiling with the Barnstormers Snowmobile Club and flower gardening. She belonged to the Maine Rose Society, Augusta Nature Club, where she served as Treasurer, and the Red Hat Hilltoppers of Randolph. She was an accomplished hunter and enjoyed fishing. She belonged to the Pittston Grange 214, Kennebec County Extension Service, volunteered at the Colburn House for the Pittston Historical Society, and knitted and crocheted many lovely items and made braided rugs. She was a life member of the Pittston Fair Association (the reward for a blue ribbon when money was scarce) and faithfully attended the annual Hanscom Family Reunion. Betty is predeceased by her parents, brothers Peter Robert McKenzie and infant Frederik Erick Berg. Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Daniel H. Warren (Sr.); son Daniel H. Warren, Jr., Pittston; daughter Nancy E. Weeks, West Gardiner; grandson Daniel H. Warren III (Trean); cousins Margaret Dixon and Carl Hanscom (Loretta); several nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and an extensive family in Prince Edwards Island, Canada. Viewing is Tuesday, 3/22/2011 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Staples Funeral Home, Brunswick Ave. Gardiner. Funeral service will be Wednesday, 3/23/2011 11:00am at the Gardiner Free Methodist Church, Highland Ave, Gardiner, followed by a gathering downstairs at the fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Goodspeed Cemetery, Warren Road, Pittston
