FARMINGDALE – Ann H. Barry, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Farmingdale, Maine, on July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, her deep compassion for animals, and her lifelong love of the outdoors. Her love of animals was a defining part of who she was, reflecting the gentle, caring spirit she shared with everyone around her.

She was born in Gardiner on June 20, 1935, to Elliot and Hester (Jones) Reed. She graduated from Gardiner High School in 1953, where she played the trombone in the high school band. Along with her sister, Sylvia, and their father, she also performed with the Augusta Cadet Band and the Hallowell Band. Ann lived in the Town of Farmingdale for most of her life.

Ann embraced life with enthusiasm and found her greatest joy in the simple pleasures of her home, animals, family, and the great outdoors. She loved spending time on her farm, where she was happiest, surrounded by the animals she adored. Family cookouts were among Ann's favorite traditions, bringing loved ones together around good food and conversation. Her home was always open, and there was always room for one more at the table. She also enjoyed photography, tole painting, and crossword puzzles.

Ann had a spirit of adventure. She spent many summer weekends at the family camp on Moosehead Lake, treasured two memorable trips to Alaska with family and friends, and proudly hiked Mt. Katahdin 13 times. The last time at age 73 with her two granddaughters, Leanne and Michelle. She never passed up the opportunity for a car or bus trip with her sisters and friends, exploring countless destinations throughout New England and beyond.

Ann was beautiful inside and out, a strong, funny, loving, and truly amazing woman. She had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to any animal in need. Her warmth, strength, and sense of humor brightened the lives of everyone who knew her. Gram will always be remembered for her wet kisses.

Throughout her life, Ann worked at Woolworth's, the family business, E.C. Barry & Son, and Reny’s. No matter where she worked, her heart was always on the family farm. She continued caring for and working on the farm she loved until her illness made it no longer possible.

Ann's love for animals knew no bounds. She had a special place in her heart for creatures of every kind, from cows, horses, pigs, donkeys, mules, and chickens to dogs, cats, and guinea pigs. Throughout her life, she lovingly cared for 16 dogs, each of whom was considered a cherished member of the family.

Ann was predeceased by her parents Elliot and Hester Reed; her husband, of 70 years, Albert “Sonny” Barry; son Daryll; sister, Sylvia Clough; and brother-in-law, Donald Clough. She is survived by her sons, Ted (Deb), and Tony (Angela); sister, Joanne (Lester); six grandchildren, Leanne Skehan (Joe), Michelle Ranslow (Chris), Chris Barry (Aya), Ben Barry (Danielle), Amy Carey (Nick), Theodore (Ted) Barry (Nicole); and Ann's beloved dogs Sophie and Rocky. She is also survived by nephews, Bert Clough (Janie), Scott Maddox (Holly) and John Barry (Marcy); nieces, Lana LaPlante-Ellis (Cameron), Brenda Perry (John) and Becky Blais (Philippe); and 11 great grandchildren.

Ann will be buried at the Barry Family Cemetery in Farmingdale.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Scott Shiff-Slater of Hallowell Family Practice for his decades of exceptional care, and to the compassionate teams at Andwell Health Partners and Cornerstone Caregiving for their kindness, unwavering support, and comfort throughout Ann's final journey.

A celebration of Ann's life will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Direct Cremation of Maine in Belfast and Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
