Obituary

We bid a fond and loving farewell to Anthony Martin Castro, who departed this world on May 27, 2026. Born amidst the hustle and bustle of The Bronx, New York on September 28, 1966, Tony, as he preferred to be called, never lost his trademark New Yorker resilience or his sharp sense of humor. He was a funny, generous, loyal, and loving man who vigorously embraced life and all its adventures. Whether he was working as a retired Industrial Mechanic—comfortably wrangling a wrench—or serving his country as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, Tony was a man of immense talent and passion who spent his life collecting unforgettable experiences and lifelong friends. An adventurer at heart, Tony was just as comfortable in the sky as he was out on the open road riding his motorcycle or behind the wheel of a muscle car. His love for traveling the world was surpassed only by his deep devotion to his family. Tony was also a dedicated member of the American Legion, Eagles, and Elks, where he could frequently be found engaging in his favorite pastime of playing pool. Known for his quick wit and generous spirit, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Tony's sense of humor was so robust that he wanted everyone to know he was "too sexy for his corpse," hence his decision to be cremated. He is survived by his daughter, Gesanie Rackliff and her husband Jared Rackliff; his son, Toran Castro and his wife Alissa Castro; sister Laura Cosme and her husband Pedro; brother Phil Castro and his wife Aliza; nine cherished grandchildren: Eban, Ceriayna, Mikaeus, Mateo, Brody, Marek, Korbin, Ronin, and Maxdon; ex-wife Janet Kanter, and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Diosa Castro, and his father, Felix Castro. Tony's life was a beautiful testament to the power of humor, love, and resilience, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 26th at 2:00 PM at the American Legion in Gardiner, Maine. We invite you to join us in honoring him, sharing your favorite memories, and uploading photos to the memorial page. Let's celebrate the incredible life of this funny, generous, loving, and resilient man who touched so many hearts with his wit and warmth.
