AUGUSTA - Barry Gene Marston, 75, of Augusta, Maine a man known for his laughter and love of life, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn, with his loved ones by his side after a sudden medical event.
He was born on October 14, 1950, in Gardiner, Maine, to Helen Doris Marston (Kopishke) and Raymond Albert Marston. Barry lived a life full of adventure and cherished moments. After graduating from Hall-Dale High School in 1970, he went to work for MDOT. After 39 years, Barry retired in 2009. Beyond his professional life, Barry was a man of many passions. In 1984, he became a Mason; he joined Rural Lodge #53 in Sidney, Maine. In 1989, he joined Kora Shrine Temple and 1990 he became a Kora Klown. From 1997-2004 he was the Kora Klown director.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding joy and peace in the great outdoors. Golf was another favorite pastime, where he likely shared many a jokes on the fairway.
Barry had a knack for clowning around and loved to dance, always bringing a smile to those around him. Camping was a treasured activity for Barry, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. In May 2019, his lifelong dream became true. He and his wife traveled with their camper to Alaska where they spent the summer with friends Mike and Wanda. His adventurous spirit also led him to gold panning, a unique hobby that speaks to his zest for discovery.
He was a true jokester, whose humor brightened countless gatherings. Above all, Barry cherished spending time with his family. He was also a devoted fan of the New England Patriots, rarely missing a game. His collections of uncirculated coin sets and coins were a testament to his keen eye for detail and appreciation for history. Barry's playful nature, combined with his deep love for his family and his many interests, made him a truly unforgettable individual. His greatest joys was his daughter Meghan and grandson Elliott.
He was predeceased by parents Raymond and Helen Marston, sisters Norma Shorey and Laurel Peaslee, brother Pete Marston, and nephews Casey Nason, Gary and Fred Taylor, and Aaron and Chris Marston.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karolyn J. Marston (Stephens), his daughter Meghan Hutchinson and her husband Dylan, grandson Elliott, brothers Ronald Marston and wife Debbie, and David Marston, sisters Charlotte Kemp, and Shirley Taylor and husband Fred, and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
