GARDINER – Charles D. Morgan, III, 60, of Gardiner died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, August 25, 2022. He died the same way he lived: quietly, independently, without attention or fanfare.
Chuck was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 18, 1962, the son of Charles D. Morgan, Jr, and Doris (Byron) Morgan. He graduated from Gordon College in 1985 and received his masters from the University of Maine Orono in 1987.
He worked for the last 25 years at the Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission where he was involved with numerous projects at the state, local, and regional levels. Chuck established New England's preeminent Brownfields Program and he tirelessly supported the betterment of Maine communities.
More important than his work was his family. Chuck could be found on the sidelines of all his daughter's sporting events. He would tell anyone and everyone about her accomplishments for as long as they would be willing to listen. Chuck was also always bringing home thoughtful gifts to his wife of 35 years. During his travels he sought out new bakeries where he would find something that Marla would love.
He was predeceased by his father, Charles D. Morgan, Jr and his son, Charles D. Morgan IV. Chuck is survived by his wife Marla; daughter Sarah; sister Leslie and her three children Andrew, Philip, and Christina; and his mother Doris. As well as his impressive collection of cigars, whiskies, and fishing poles.
