BRUNSWICK - Daniel (Dan) Robert Williams, 76, died on Tuesday May 14th at Mid Coast hospital in Brunswick ME, after an extremely fast-moving battle with cancer. He passed exactly one week from the time he learned the details of his illness.
Dan was born on June 13, 1947, in Gardiner Maine, the eldest son of Robert and Marian (Shirley) Eye Williams. He graduated from Gardiner Area High School, class of 1965. While in high school, many of you might be surprised to learn that he excelled in track and lettered 2 times for his track performances.
Over the years, Dan, as many often do, worked at several different jobs, too numerous to mention. His crowning achievement, however, was becoming a college graduate and going on to an impressive career as a highly demanded sign language interpreter.
While working as an interpreter, Dan created Silent Impressions, Inc. He used this company to perform live show performances of songs, interpreted with sign language aimed to the hearing-impaired community. Money raised through these performances was donated to help fund programs for the hearing impaired.
In his final years, after retiring for a short time to keep busy, he worked in a few senior care facilities, where he established many friendships that lasted to his final days.
Dan was predeceased by his father in 2008 and his mother in 2015. He is survived by his brother Jeffery Williams of Portland and his niece Shannon (Williams) May and her husband Chris and their two children, Ashton, and Quentyn of Westbrook. One aunt Thelma Eye Brooks, one uncle, Earl Wallace, and several cousins. He is also survived by his very dear and close friends, Guy Duprey of Portland, Anne Litchfield of Brunswick, Judy Vandenberg of Topsham, and Melissa Croxford of Bath.
Fly high and free of pain Dan, you will truly be missed by all who loved you. My life will forever have an empty hole that will always hold your memory…
Per Dan's wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
