Obituary

WEST GARDINER - Diane "Dee" Moulton, 87, passed away peacefully following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease and COPD. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Dee was the cherished daughter of William and Elisabeth Daly. She carried the strength and resilience instilled in her during her upbringing throughout her life. In 1959, she married Lawrence Moulton. Although their marriage later ended in divorce in 1985, together they raised three children who remained the center of Dee's world: James Moulton (girlfriend Angie), Patricia Cavanaugh (husband Paul), and Richard Moulton (wife Martha). Dee devoted many years to her role as a homemaker, caring for her family and home with love and dedication. After her divorce, she worked various odd jobs before becoming a housekeeper, a role she carried out with pride and a strong work ethic. She valued independence and demonstrated remarkable perseverance throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother William Daly and his wife Jeanette Daly; and her brother James Michael. She is survived by her brother John Daly and his wife Jane, along with her nieces and nephews. Dee was a loving and proud grandmother and great grandmother who thought dearly of her many grandchildren. They brought her endless joy and were often on her mind and in her heart. She also treasured the enduring friendships she shared with Lynn and James Hamper, remaining close with them for nearly 50 years. Dee fondly remembered the time she spent babysitting Emily and Lacy, daughters of Carla and Brad Phillips, more than 40 years ago — memories she carried with her throughout her life. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Gardiner Alzheimer's Care Center and at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care at Glenridge. Diane could not have asked for more caring and patient support, even during her "spicy moments," which, true to her spirited nature, could test the very best of us. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort to both Dee and her family. Dee will be remembered for her resilience, her devotion to family, her loyal friendships, and the spark of personality that remained with her throughout her life. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace. A celebration of Diane's life will be held Saturday, May 9th, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Leeds Center Cemetery, Route 106, Leeds, Maine. In lieu of flowers, staff appreciation donations can be made to the Gardiner Alzheimer's Care Center or the Glenridge facility Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
