WEST GARDINER – Gary Quintal, 71, of West Gardiner, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Gary was born November 28, 1954, the son of George and Frances Quintal. He graduated from Gardiner Area High School. On June 29, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Maria, at the West Gardiner Baptist Church. They shared more than 52 years of marriage and built a life together filled with hard work, laughter, adventure, and unwavering love. Maria remained faithfully by his side through it all, and together they made countless memories at their family camp, exploring the trails with their horses and ATVs and cherishing the time spent with family.
Gary took pride in caring for his property and enjoyed being outdoors, spending time on the water, and taking on projects. He especially appreciated the simple pleasures of life in Maine and felt at home in the woods with his tractor and chainsaw. Gary spent many years helping with the Boy Scouts and teaching first aid and safety.
Known for his strength, determination and devotion to his family, Gary could always be counted on to lend a hand. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother whose quiet acts of kindness, steady presence and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his wife, Maria; his son, Aaron Quintal and his wife, Shannon, and their sons, George, Abraham, Dexter and Edison; his daughter, Cassandra Quintal and her partner, Noel Foss; as well as his siblings, extended family and many friends.
His legacy lives on in the family he loved the land he cared for, and the memories shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
Family and friends are invited to join Gary's family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, August 5, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, ME.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website, www.staplesfuneralhome.com
