1940 – 2022

LITCHFIELD – Gene Alan Prince, 81, of Litchfield, Maine, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022 at his home.

He was born in Carroll, IA on July 30, 1940, the son of Irving and Glennie (Schoenjahn) Prince. He was a 1958 graduate of Ar-We-Va High School and spent four years in the Air Force. While stationed at Pease Air Force Base, he met Bette and they married on September 16, 1960. During their 61 years together, they celebrated the birth of two sons, two grandsons, one granddaughter, three great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

At 6’2” tall, Gene was a man of large stature but had the kindest heart. You always knew when he was in the room and would greet you with the biggest hug or handshake. A very social man, he loved being surrounded by people. One of his favorite places was at camp in Upper Enchanted Township, which he built with his sons. He spent many a day there, hunting, four wheeling, snowmobiling, visiting with friends, sitting on the porch and puttering around the garage.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife Elizabeth (Bette) (Yager) Prince, brother Thomas Prince, sister Carol Musfeldt, brothers-in-law, Paul Yager, Mick Nieland, Ed Musfeldt and Doug McAdon. And his beloved dogs, Molly, Angel and Lizzie.

Gene will be greatly missed by sons: Randy and his wife Nancy and their children Nathan Prince and his wife Jessica and Alison Getchell and her husband Ted; Shawn and his wife Lorna and their son, Chad. Great grandchildren, Arianna and Carter Prince and Landon and Aiden Getchell. A special son, Homer (Scott Westerlund). Sisters, Kay Nieland, Grace McAdon, brothers Jim Prince and Jack Prince and sisters-in-law, Linda Prince, Rita Prince and Marilyn Yager as well as many friends, nieces and nephews, several of whom referred to Gene as Uncle Lippy.

A graveside service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 28th, at 11:00 AM, at the Mount Hope Cemetery, South Gardiner.
