Obituary

Skowhegan- George A. Staggs, 76, died on November 26, 2024 at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center following an extended illness. George was born in Auburn, WA on October 11, 1948 the son of the late Murrell G. and Anna Lee (Blakeney) Staggs. He attended local schools and graduated from Sumner High School class of 1966 in Sumner Washington. He continued his education at Green River Community College. George enlisted and served in the United States Air Force. George started working at the age of 13 selling corn he had grown in a neighbors field. He worked for Boeing, Owned and operated Melody TV & Appliance in WA, State, owned and operated his own Lumber Mill, Gasco Lumber Company, which he ran for 20+ years, then a produce broker in WA, State for 10+years. He then ran Twostaggs Enterprise, trucking company for 7+ years while he did the produce. After retiring he moved to Maine in 2017 to be closer to his family. When he wasn't working, George loved cutting and splitting wood, going for drives, enjoyed his long drives from Washington State to Maine to visit his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing with friends and his brother, going to the camp, trips to Alaska for fishing, deep sea fishing and camping. He loved to tell stories about family and friends. George was predeceased by a brother, Joe K. Staggs; sister, Virginia Temple. He is survived by two daughters, Kari & Chris Lancaster of Norridgewock, Jori & Jason Blake of WA; grandchildren, Justin & Shoko Staggs of Winslow, Camden & Libbie Johndro of Hermon, Aden Johndro and girlfriend Atima Kunajutikul of Bangor, Wyatt Lancaster of Norridgewock, Savannah Lancaster of VT, Kaitlyn Johndro of Norridgewock, Jasmine Lancaster of Norridgewock, Morgan & Josh Barnes of WA, Branden Blake of WA. Great grandson, Kai Staggs of Winslow. Brother Donald & Linda Staggs of WA. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 1pm in the Chapel of the New Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt Hope Ave., Augusta, ME. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 53 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, ME.
