RICHMOND – Gerald Kenney, 83, a longtime resident of Litchfield and recently of Richmond passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a 15-year battle with Type 1 diabetes. He was born in Gardiner on February 19, 1942, to Clifton and Hazel (Seddon) Kenney.
Gerald married Vickie Lilly on November 25, 1972. They quietly eloped in Gardiner. Vickie's brother and his wife stood up with them and Rev. Dunston performed the ceremony. They both put their savings together and Gerald bought 100 cars in which he hauled to their place on the Plains Road in Litchfield and they immediately started their business called Kenney's Used Auto Parts. They along with their son Jeremy sold parts and scrapped cars for over 50 years. Gerald also worked for The Maine Turnpike Authority for a number of years.
In 2020 our son died in a car accident and Gerald's spirit was truly broken. Our son had his problems and as hard as we tried, we could not help him. Between that and his diabetes Gerald went downhill from there.
Gerald did the work of four men in his lifetime and really enjoyed helping our friends and customers with parts so they could get their vehicles back up and running.
Gerald was such a good, honest and descent man who was always willing to help his friends, neighbors and family. He had such a generous heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Elwin, Ronald, Howard, Warren and Russell; sisters Roxene Knight and Jean Daly; and his only son Jeremy whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife Vickie; his brother Fred Kenney and wife Penny who lives in Harpswell and his sister Marjorie Perry of Litchfield and lots of nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no funeral or services.
If anyone wishes to honor Gerald, please donate to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 168 Leighton Road, Augusta, Maine 04330.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
