Cameron
Mar 3, 1945 — May 16, 2015
Gerry D. Cameron 1935 - 2015 AUGUSTA Gerry D. Cameron, 80, was called home to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on May 16, 2015. He was born in Richmond on March 3, 1935, the son of Dolph and Irene Allen Cameron. Gerry was a graduate of Gardiner High School. On Nov. 10, 1960, he married his best friend and the love of his life, the former Janice D. James. They made their home in Chelsea where they raised their two children. Gerry proudly worked for the Chelsea school system for more than 25 years, retiring in 2010. He also served as a Constable, as well as a Selectman, for the Town of Chelsea. Gerry's interests were varied. He loved the Three Stooges, and also the Boston Red Sox. He was known for his sense of humor and ability to reminisce, and any conversation could lead to him saying 'that reminds me of a story.' Gerry also had an avid interest in buying and tinkering with older automobiles, and loved to tell of 'wheeling and dealing.' His wife remarked 'I never knew what he'd be driving up in when he came home.' He was known by two generations of nieces and nephews as 'Uncle Ugly.' Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 54 years, Janice; a daughter, Wendy Lou Hansen of Enumclaw, Wash., a son, Mark R. Cameron of Bangor; a grandson, Joshua E. Hansen of Enumclaw, Wash.; a sister, Donna Gurney of Hallowell, two sisters-in-law, Joyce Nelson and her husband Brian of Dacula, Ga., and Carol Cook and her husband Ross of Charlestown, N.H., and a brother-in-law, Philip G. James and his wife Helen, of Monroe, Ga.; as well as an aunt, uncle; and many nieces, nephews; and cousins. Gerry was predeceased by his parents and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will also be dearly missed by his loving cat, Gizmo. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held Friday, May 22, at 10 a.m. at Winter Street Baptist Church, 32 Winter St., Gardiner, where Gerry was a lifelong member. Burial will be at the Chelsea Heights Cemetery in Chelsea. To share an online condolence or to view Gerry's memorial page, please visit www.staplesfuneralhome.com
