Glenn Elam Metzler, 67,resident of Farmingdale (formerly of Readfield) was born November 22, 1945 in Lititz, Pennsylvania to the late Elam and Anna Mary (nee:Martin) Metzler.He died surrounded by his family on September 14, 2013 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA after an extended illness.Glenn attended Lancaster Mennonite School and University of Maine, Farmington, receiving a degree in Family Counseling.Glenn is the beloved husband of 46 years to Esther (nee:Stoltzfus).Loving father of Gwenda (Don) Metzler-Pryor, Millie (Leigh) Tarbuck, Danita (Adam) Kwiatkowski, and Laurel Metzler.He is the grandfather of Gabriel, Lauren and Alisha Tarbuck, Lorelei and Aidan Pryor, Julia and Joel Kwiatkowski.Dear brother of Donald (the late Carol) Metzler, Dale (Janie) Metzler, Twila (Larry) Gehman, Reba (Richard) Yoder, Rachel (Kevin) Bicher, Jewel (Tim) Zook and Crystal (David) Zook and dear friend, Emma Graybill. In 1972, he brought his family to Maine to start a volunteer program through the Mennonite Church. Loving Maine, and the people so much, they stayed.He is the founding pastor of Faith Christian Church in Gardiner (Formerly Kennebec Mennonite Church of Augusta).He was a mentor, father figure and dearly loved pastor to many.He enjoyed his involvement with Harvest Fellowship of Churches Oversight Team, Gardiner Area Clergy, Maine General Chaplaincy Program, Habitat for Humanity Board, and University of Maine Cooperative Extension Service. In his free time, he was an avid gardener, apiarist, carpenter, train enthusiast and Red Sox Fan. A funeral service will be held at Faith Christian Church 280 Brunswick Avenue Gardiner, ME Thursday, September 19, 2:00 PM.Friends may visit at the church Wednesday 6:00-8:00 PM and Thursday 12:00-2:00 PM.
