Obituary

1937 - 2023 PITTSTON - Gordon M. Glidden, passed away on June 27th, 2023, peacefully at his home in Pittston, Maine. He was born in Whitefield Maine on May 3rd, 1937, son of Earl and Annie (Plummer) Glidden and grew up in Coopers Mills, Maine. He attended Erskine Academy, graduating in 1956. On January 23, 1957, he joined the Air Force and served in Europe & Germany as an Air Policeman earning a Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in July of 1960. Gordon started his career with the Gardiner Police Department on November 11, 1960, and served for 29 ½ years rising to the rank of Chief in 1979 and retired in 1990. He earned his associate degree in law enforcement in 1975 and was well respected in the community and highly regarded by fellow police professionals. While working for the police department, he met his future bride, Patricia L. Brown, and they were married on July 27, 1963. In his retirement, he turned one of his favorite pastimes into a job doing woodworking and carpentry for family and friends and in many places including Nantucket, MA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies, spending time at camp ATVing and snowmobiling as well as family gatherings. Gordon also enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. He built his current home and maintained a garden and an extensive raspberry patch for many years. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his practical jokes. Always with a sparkle in his eye. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 44 years, Patricia L. Glidden, on October 20, 2007. He was also predeceased by his five siblings Linn "Buster" Glidden of Coopers Mills, Virginia Howard of Jefferson, Mildred Engstrom of Jefferson, Doris Lailer of Carrying Place Township and Mary Bowen of Litchfield as well as beloved niece Donna Bulmer of West Forks. He is survived by his two daughters Laura Naas and her fiancé Mike Kimball of Pittston, April Glidden and her partner Timothy Christopher of Solon and Brunswick. Grandchildren Madeline and Carter Naas. Brother-in-Law, Harlan Brown and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank, with much gratitude, the team at Beacon Hospice and the caregivers at Bridges Home Services as well as a special thank you to his primary caregiver, Courtney Goudreau, who was with dad until the very end. All of you deserve the credit you get and much, much more. Visiting hours will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday July 7th at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 am and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner following the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
