PITTSTON – It is with deep sorrow that we share the sudden passing of Gordon Michael "Mike" Kimball on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, following injuries sustained in an accident. Known lovingly as "Mike," or by many as the easygoing and always-friendly "Grinder," he was a man who made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Born on March 21, 1955, in Gardiner, Maine, Mike was the son of Gordon E. and Renee Kimball. He grew up with a strong sense of family, hard work, and the kind of character that stayed with him throughout his life. Mike had a true gift as a mechanic—something that was more than just a profession; it was part of who he was. As the proud owner and operator of Kimball's VW and Kimball Racing in Pittston, he built not only a successful business but a reputation for honesty, skill, and loyalty to his customers and community. His love for automobiles ran deep, and there was rarely a conversation he couldn't turn into one about engines, racing, or the beauty of a well-built Volkswagen. But Mike knew how to enjoy life just as much as he knew how to work hard. He found peace and happiness outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, boating, or spending cherished time at Lucky Point Club on Moosehead Lake. Racing was always close to his heart, from the roar of engines at Wiscasset Speedway to relaxing nights watching NASCAR. That passion became part of his legacy, passed down to his family through shared experiences, stories, and time spent together. In 2024, Mike was honored with induction into the Wiscasset Speedway Hall of Fame, a moment of pride that meant the world to him. Still, those who knew him best would say his greatest joy came from simpler moments—hand delivering a coffee every morning to his fiancé Laura, enjoying fresh lobster on the coast, or sharing one of his "famous" homemade apple pies. These were the things that brought people together and made memories that will last. Family was at the center of Mike's life. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Shawn Kimball, wife Amanda, and his grandsons, Ryan and Travis Kimball, who brought him so much pride and happiness. He also shared his life with his fiancé, Laura Naas, and her children, Madeline and Carter, who meant a great deal to him. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Kim Parlin; stepson Jerry Parlin and grandchildren Zoey and Max; his brother Weston Kimball and partner Joyce LaPointe; sister-in-law Kathleen Kimball; nephew Jason Kimball and family; brother-in-law Jeff Malinky; and niece Danielle Hague and family. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Renee Kimball; his brother David Kimball; and his sister Marcelle Malinky.
