Helene B. Brooks (née Wagner)

Helene B. Brooks passed away on July 7, 2026, at the age of 98.

Born on November 29, 1927, in Mainz, Germany Helene lived a long life defined by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. She possessed a quiet strength and gentle spirit that carried her through nearly a century of life's joys and many challenges. As the wife of an Army officer, she embraced a life of adventure and change, making homes in many places throughout the years. Wherever life took her, Helene had a gift for forming lasting friendships and creating a warm, welcoming home. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with those she loved and watching her family grow through the generations.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 75 years, Bobby Brooks, Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3), United States Army. Together they shared a lifetime of love, faithfully navigating the many moves and experiences of military life.

Helene is survived by her children, Christine Canty Brooks, George Brooks, and Susan Vahle; her son-in-law, Joel Canty; and her daughter-in-law, Kris Brooks. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Collage, Arro, Johanna, Xipe, Lily, and Aimée; twelve beloved great-grandchildren; her cousin, Annebarbel Herpe; and her sister-in-law, Doris Brooks.

Helene will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, steadfast love, perseverance and the example she set through a life well lived. She leaves behind not only a family who loved her, but also dear friends whose lives were enriched by her warmth, generosity, and genuine care for others. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply and in the countless memories they will continue to cherish.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who provided Helene with compassionate care, comfort, and companionship during her final years.

Helene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.

May she rest in eternal peace dancing “Cheek to Cheek” with the love of her life.
