1934 – 2022
GARDINER – Jacqueline Marie Cook, 87, of Gardiner, died Thursday, August 11th, 2022 after a brief illness.
She was born in Portland, Maine on November 30, 1934, the daughter of James and Arlene (Morrison) Cook.
Jaqueline was raised in Brunswick, Maine. She attended Wheaton College and New York University for social work, which led to a long career in home health. She was well respected in the field, and adored by homemakers and consumers alike.
Jacqueline was devoted to her younger brother David, who predeceased her in 2019. David's lifelong intellectual disability did not stop them from adventures over the years; a more truly bonded pair was never seen.
An avid dog lover, Jackie cared for her canine companions with her whole heart, most recently dear Bebe, who received the royal treatment at all times.
A decades-long love affair with New York City often found her with friends in theater seats or fine art exhibitions.
Aunt Jackie was always good for a strong demi-tasse, the New Yorker magazine, a cop show or a mystery novel with a fluffernutter sandwich at the beach.
Jackie is survived by her younger brother John Cook; her beloved nieces Alexis Cook and Meaghan Carlson (KC Carlson). Her magical great nieces and nephew, Freya, Hanna, and Asa Carlson brought her much joy and they will never forget her. Many wonderful friends will always remember her witt and whims to be as fashionable and classy as she herself always was.
