Obituary for James W. Tracy
3/2/1937 - 12/8/2022
Farmingdale - James W. Tracy, 85 of Farmindale was lovingly tended at home by his family
until he passed away quietly on Dec. 8, 2022.
He was loved and remembered by so many for his great sense of humor, his integrity, his strength of character, his intelligence and his quiet, gentle demeanor. He was a wonderful listener and the supportive foundation of his family. Of all of his accomplishments, he considered his family to be his greatest. He was deeply and truly proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim, as he was known, was born on March 2, 1937 in Rome, ME, the son of Willis and May
Tracy.
Jim graduated from Gardiner High School in 1955 where he met the love of his life,
Donna. They later married and lived a short time in West Gardiner before settling in the Hayford
Heights neighborhood of Farmingdale with their two children, Sherryl & Jeff, where he lived until
his passing.
After graduating, he became a Branch manager of the Hallowell Depositor's Trust. Jim then
went on to work for the federal Small Business Administration as Chief of Portfolio Management
in Augusta until his retirement in 1993.
Jim was an integral part of the Windsor Fair for nearly 60 years. He was a trustee and the
treasurer of the fair for more than 35 of those years. He truly loved his Windsor Fair family, the
camaraderie, the lifelong friendships and all the hustle and bustle the fair could bring. He also
enjoyed the 4-H animal judging and splitting bets on the horses with his friends. He was a
member of the Maine Harness Racing Commission for many years.
Jim enjoyed playing golf with his friends and puttering around his house and camp. He and
Donna cherished their weekend card games with many dear friends. In most recent years he
loved family gatherings, snuggling with his dogs and playing cribbage with his granddaughter
Adrienne.
He was an avid sports fan. For well over a decade, he could be seen supporting his
granddaughters at every Cony girl's basketball and field hockey game. Later he cheered on his
youngest granddaughter at her sporting events and musical performances. He also loved
watching women's college and professional basketball, The Red Sox & The Patriots.
Jim, also known as Pappy, was a beloved grandfather, not only to his seven granddaughters,
but to each and everyone of the friends they brought to his home. He welcomed them all and
loved them as his own.
He is survived by his daughter Sherryl Tracy and her husband, James Nimon; his son Jeff Tracy
and his wife, Mary Ellen Tracy; his granddaughters, Tracey Frye Hayes, husband Ryan and
daughter Summer of Candia, NH, Lindsay Mongeon, husband Chad and daughters Leah and
Taylor of Cincinnati, OH, Adrienne Tracy and husband Connor Smith of Ronkonkoma, NY, Eliza
Nimon of Boston, MA, Amanda Nimon and daughter Kairo of Charlotte, NC, Rachael Nimon of
