AUGUSTA - Mrs. Jean Margaret Knox passed away quietly in her sleep on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, at MaineGeneral Rehab & Long-Term Care – Gray Birch in Augusta. She was 92 years old.
Jean was born October 2, 1931, in Calais, Maine to Louis and Josephine MacDonald, the youngest of four children and only girl. They moved to Augusta when she was very young. Jean graduated from Cony High School in 1949. She married her high-school sweetheart, the late Randall H. Knox, in 1950.
Jean is survived by three daughters, Linda Knox, and Lynn Norris both of Camden, and Diana Knopf of Old Town. She was also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Jean was predeceased by her daughter Valerie Houle of Augusta in 2011, and by her loving husband in 2012.
Jean had a beautiful singing voice and was given the opportunity to study music after high school, but she chose to marry and follow Randy around the world supporting his Air Force career. After retirement, she became a staunch member of the United Methodist Church, first in Randolph and later in Gardiner. She and Randy enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
A quiet graveside ceremony will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, at Green Lawn Cemetery, Town House Road, Swanville, Maine for family and friends.
