LITCHFIELD – Jeannine B. Bernier, 89, of Litchfield, ME died peacefully at home with her loved ones by her side, on Saturday, March 9th, 2024.
She was born in Quebec City, Canada, on May 26th, 1934, the daughter of Leonidas and Lillian (LeBrecque) Boutin.
Jeannine attended Bliss Business College in Lewiston and worked in various administrative offices in the Lewiston/Auburn Area for several years. She spent some time living in California and Texas. She returned to Maine to raise a family with her husband Normand whom she wed on November 22, 1959.
Jeannine was well-known throughout her life as a dedicated caregiver. She was a primary school teacher for Holy Rosary Catholic School for several years and became a nurse's aide and medication technician at Marcotte Nursing Home.
Jeannine eventually branched out on her own and created a magical haven called Mrs. B's Place on their farm in Litchfield. For 28 years, she provided childcare 24/7 and could never say no to a family in need. Jeannine loved all the children she worked with and made the difficult decision to close the doors of Mrs. B's Place when she turned 65.
She was steadfastly determined and had a great sense of humor. Most of all, Jeannine was a generous woman with a loving family and lifelong friendships. She was well-loved and will be deeply missed by all.
Jeannine was predeceased by her parents; four sisters, Cecile, Gert, Gloria, and Therese; 2 brothers, Ronald and Jean-Marc; and her son Jean-Marc.
Jeannine is survived by her husband Normand L. Bernier; daughter Michelle and son Pete; granddaughter Elizabeth; and a great-grandson Cole.
Jeannine's visiting hours will be held from 4-6 pm on Monday, March 18th at Staples Funeral Home (53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner). A Christian mass burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, March 19th at St. Joseph Catholic Church (110 School Street, Gardiner) with a reception following at the American Legion Post #181 (279 Plains Road, Litchfield).
She'll be sadly missed by all.
