Randolph-John Joseph Sliva died peacefully at home on July 19, 2015 in Randolph, Maine at the age of 81. John is survived by his loving devoted wife of 58 years, Gretchen Vickery Sliva, son John Scott Sliva and his wife Sharon, grandson John Sliva, wife Charity, grandson, Matthew Sliva and great granddaughter Leona Rose Sliva. Also survived by his sister Joan French and her husband Richard, their children Kristin French Brawn and her husband Trevor and daughter Lorelei and Jonathan French and wife Carol Anne and their son William. He was preceded in death by daughter Toni Lynne in 1980.
John was born September 6, 1933 in Augusta, Maine son of Walter and Mary Owcarz Sliva. He graduated from Cony High School in 1951. He served his country in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. He married Gretchen Vickery on June 22, 1957. He attended the University of Maine at Orono where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in civil engineering. He was a civil engineer for the State of Maine, Department of Transportation for his entire working career retiring in 1996.
John loved fishing and hunting and spending time with family at his camp on Schoodic Lake.
He was a communicant of Saint Michael Parish at Saint Josephs Church in Gardiner.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 22 from 2 o 4 pm at Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Ave Gardiner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30am at St. Joseph Church in Gardiner. Burial will follow in the Hallowell Cemetery.
