CUMBERLAND – Kerry J. Boese, 54, of Valley Road, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on September 19, 2026.

Kerry was born in Fulda, Germany, on September 17, 1972, the son of Ronald and Petra (Wehner) Boese. He graduated high school in Fulda Germany and enlisted in the U.S Army in 1995. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, and was a lifelong learner, furthering his studies until the time of his death.

Kerry married Sheila (Rust) and together they welcomed two sons, Samuel and Andrew. Although their marriage may have ended, they remained close friends and devoted co-parents, united by their love for their sons.

Kerry devoted more than 27 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Army. During his distinguished military career, he served multiple combat tours. Through years of dedicated service and leadership he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Kerry retired honorably from the Army in April 2026. Kerry took great pride and responsibility in genuinely caring for and mentoring the Soldiers that served by his side.

Kerry’s greatest love was his family, especially his sons, Samuel and Andrew. Whatever interested his boys immediately became important to him as well. He took a genuine interest in their lives, supported their pursuits, and treasured the time and adventures they shared. In April 2026 Kerry traveled to Peru for the birth of his grandson, Agustín. Being present for Agustín’s birth was a deeply meaningful experience for him and the beginning of a new role of Opa which he embraced with great love and pride.

Kerry enjoyed adventures and discovering new places. He loved hunting and fishing and appreciated the beauty of the outdoors. Whether he was visiting somewhere new, spending time with family and friends, or enjoying a local brewery, Kerry valued the experiences and memories made along the way.

Kerry leaves behind a life marked by selfless service, genuine connections, and love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Kerry is survived by his two sons, Samuel Boese and his partner, Adriana Cesvasco, of Cumberland, ME; Andrew Boese of Cumberland, ME; his parents, Ronald and Petra Boese of Athens, AL; his grandson, Agustín Boese Cesvasco of Cumberland; dear friend and the mother of his children, Sheila Foley of Poland, ME; and many, many friends.

Visiting hours celebrating Kerry’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery on Mount Vernon Road in Augusta, Maine.
