Obituary

AUGUSTA - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lee Edmond Hamel on October 22, 2026, in Augusta, Maine. Born on May 25, 1987, in Augusta, Lee's spirit was as vibrant and colorful as the art and music he so passionately created.

Lee's journey through life was marked by many lasting friendships going back to his childhood days. He enjoyed the camaraderie of sports, particularly baseball and softball.
Lee attended schools in Gardiner, Hall-Dale, and graduated from Cony High School in Augusta before enrolling at Thomas College. His artistic talents flourished throughout his life; he was a gifted painter and drawer, finding joy in bringing his visions to life on canvas and paper. The melodies and messages of grunge rock inspired him to compose the lyrics and play the guitar for a couple of original songs he recently recorded with friends. Lee loved to play games: board games with the family, online video games against challenging opponents, or Dungeons and Dragons with friends on Sunday afternoons.

Lee worked in a variety of fields over the years: retail, construction, computing and data processing, delivery services, and most recently on the maintenance of public spaces with Augusta's Parks and Recreation department.

Lee's legacy is one of vibrant expression and heartfelt connection. He leaves behind his parents, Guy and Kathleen Hamel, who were a constant source of support and love throughout his life, his siblings, Larry and Beth, and several nieces and nephews. His unique perspective and creative touch will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
