Obituary

Gardiner- Lois M.C. Slamin, died peacefully on March 10, 2025, at her home with her loving family by her side. Lois was born in Brooks, Maine on September 20, 1944, the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Doris I. (Hansen) Cook. She attended local schools and graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast, ME at the age of 17. After graduating high school, Lois moved to Augusta and took a job working for the State of Maine, first in the SASP Department and then the Education Department. She loved working for Bill Leavitt at Leavitt Accounting Agency in Randolph, as his office manager. She worked there for twenty years, and as a perk, would receive circus tickets for her grandchildren and their friends. On June 29, 1968, Lois married her longtime boyfriend, Herbert J. Slamin of Swanville, ME. Together, they moved to their new home in Gardiner where they happily lived until Lois's passing. Lois (Cookie) to her close friends and family, then mom and Mimi to everyone else. She was the most loving, caring, honest and genuine person. The saying on Tic Tok "We listen, and we don't judge" she was exactly that. You could talk to and tell her anything and she would always have a way to make you feel better. She was so nice that while running her in home daycare, a parent got very upset with her and the only thing that this parent could think to call her was "you goodie two shoes". Doing for her family gave her so much joy. She would compliment to girls on their hair but then say, "I have never dyed my hair, its all natural". She was very proud of that. She brightens up every room with her bright blue eyes and her big smile. She will be greatly missed by many. Lois is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Herbert J. Slamin of Gardiner; a daughter, Victoria M. Slamin Fisher of Gardiner; a son, Frederick J. Slamin of Garinder; five grandchildren, Vanessa M. Fisher Slamin Briggs, Veronica L. Fisher, David Fisher III, Michael H. Slamin and Gwennavere G. Duchame; two great grandchildren, Emmett J. Fisher and Jaxson C. Briggs. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, ME.
