GARDINER – Lorna Elizabeth (Grotton) Christl, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday March 26th 2023 after a yearlong battle with cancer at the home of her cousin Brenda and her husband, Spence Callahan of Gardiner. Lorna was born at the Gardiner General Hospital in Gardiner, Maine on February 22nd, 1945 to the late Fred and Rita (Hopkins) Grotton. She was a graduate of Gardiner High School class of 1963, and after years as a stay at home mother went on to become a pharmacy technician at Togus VA Center. She was an active member of the Winter Street Baptist Church where she so loved to worship and sing. In her final days, she often spoke of her love for her church and due to that love, she had no fear of dying "because I know where I'm going." Lorna's favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family and friends but her passion was her regular card games with her dearest friends. She was predeceased by her loving daughter Carolee Tupper of Brunswick whose loss she mourned until the day she passed. While we all know that life goes on, it was never the same for Lorna without her beautiful daughter. They will now be together again. Lorna was also predeceased by her mom and dad and brothers Jim Grotton and David Grotton. She is survived by her adoring grandchildren Logan and Kiley Tupper of Harpswell, brother Doug and wife Heidi Grotton of Swanzey, New Hampshire, and her brother John and wife Janet Grotton, of Scarborough, ME. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Everyone who knows Lorna will miss her ever-present smile and loving nature. She will be missed by all who know her. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 4th from 5-7 pm at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner Maine. A private ceremony to scatter ashes will take place at a later date.
