Obituary

LORRAINE FAYE "RAINY" VANNAH GREGG AUGUSTA - Rainy 86, loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Gray-Birch Long Term Care after battling Parkinson's Disease. In her last days, she was surrounded by her loving daughter Diane and family. Rainy was born April 14, 1937, in Litchfield, Maine during mud season, as the doctor struggled to get to her parents' home in his horse and buggy. She is the daughter of Donald and Margaret Eunice (Scruggs) Vannah. Rainy graduated from Litchfield Academy in 1955. She was a homemaker for several years, raising her young family while her husband served in the U.S. Army. Rainy also worked several years at the Romper Factory and Healthtex. She retired from Bath Irons Works after fifteen years of service. Rainy will always be remembered for her love of music, mostly country and of course, Elvis. She always enjoyed being outdoors, traveling around the beautiful State of Maine and walking for miles. She is predeceased by her son Michael H. Gregg, her brothers: Donald and Roger Vannah, her sisters: Phyllis MacLeod, and Shirley Gregg, and her former husband, Richard O. Gregg Sr. Rainy is survived by her son: Richard Jr. (Beth): daughters: Diane K. (James) O'Hara and Jennifer Gregg; daughter-in-law Sarah Hoyt Gregg; two sisters Barbara Lovering, and Marion (Earland) Boynton; brother: Larry (Linda) Vannah; seven grandchildren Joshua, Kenneth, Shawn, Amanda, Nicholas, Moriah, and Michelle. four great-grandchildren Kayden, Alice, Finley and Felix; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rainy cherished all her family and was grateful for the love and support from Nancy MacLeod Fitts and Diane Gregg Morin. There will be a graveside service in the Spring at the Litchfield Plains Cemetery, Litchfield, Maine. Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
