Obituary

GARDINER – Margaret “Maggie” Mahon Perkins, 83, of Gardiner, Maine, a beacon of warmth and generosity, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Born on March 16, 1943, in the heart of Treenagh, Ireland, Maggie’s life was a testament to her unwavering kindness and dedication to others. She was a cherished soul whose presence enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

While visiting family in England, Maggie met her future husband, Raymond, during his service in the Air Force. In 1960, Maggie traveled to Gardiner, Maine to marry Ray and begin her new life in America. Maggie and Ray moved into Ray’s family home on Central Street where they raised their two daughters and lived for the remainder of their lives.

For much of her life, Maggie worked in the restaurant industry as a server and manager and later became co-owner of the Kennebec Wharf in Hallowell with her husband, Ray. A few years later the two established R&M Catering and created wonderful food for many weddings, lobster bakes and meetings throughout central Maine. Both ventures filled her passion for hospitality and her genuine care for people.

Maggie was a natural people person, a best friend to many, and her greatest joy was found in hosting family gatherings, where card games, laughter and love filled her home. Her defining characteristic was her constant consideration for others; she was always looking out and caring for people. Above all, Maggie was deeply devoted to her daughters, Susanne and Carolyn, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their boundless love and care for her reflected the very best of her own generous spirit—a legacy of love they will carry in their hearts forever.

Maggie is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Mary Mahon, her husband of 62 years, Raymond Perkins, her beloved sister, Bridie Doherty, and her son-in-law, Christopher Condon. She is survived by her two daughters, Susanne Mansir and Carolyn Condon and her partner Tieche Shelton III, three grandchildren, Robert Condon and his wife, Katie, Kelsie Sue Condon, and Richard Mansir and his wife Gina LoMonaco; three great grandchildren, Richard “Ricky” Mansir, Christopher Condon and Reid Condon.

Maggie’s family would like to convey very special thanks to the staff of MaineGeneral Hospice for their kind and compassionate care allowing her to spend her final days at home surrounded by family and dear friends.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
