Obituary

Gardiner- Marion Louise (Moore) Thomas, 94, of Gardiner, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Marion was born on February 26, 1931, the daughter of the late Albert H. and Genevieve (Bridges) Moore in Gloucester, MA. She came to live in South Gardiner after the death of her mother in 1932, with Byron and Alice (Moore) Foster. She was educated in Gardiner, graduating from Gardiner High School in the class of 1950. She attended the Kennebec School of Commerce for one year. Marion was employed by Health Tex as a stitcher then in the office as Payroll Clerk, at TW Dick Steel Company as Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper and Credit Manager, and at Williams Construction Company as the Accounts Payable Bookkeeper. Marion was active in many groups and clubs in the area holding various offices in most of them; Gardiner Emblem Club, Four Leaf Clover Senior Citizens Club of Gardiner, Red Hat Society, Rubies Cuties Chapter, AARP Chapter 511, Maine General Medical Center Auxiliary, volunteering in the Hospital Gift Shop for many years. She was a longtime member of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) traveling with them throughout the United States for conventions and conferences, representing the Maine State Chapter #276. In 2023 she was honored with a scholarship in her name for high school students entering the construction and engineering fields. When not working, Marion loved traveling with her NAWIC Group, ice cream, card games with friends, shopping, anything chocolate and fun times gathering with friends and family. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Jason and Mary Smith and Cindy Delong for their kindness and care in the last year and to the wonderful staff at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. Marion was predeceased by both sets of parents and stepmother, Dorothy Conant Moore; three brothers, Francis, Robert and Daniel Moore; two foster brothers, Byron and Joseph Foster; four foster sisters, Margaret Giroux, Doris Martin, Helena Maxim and Beatrice Brunelle. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Robert Thomas; daughters, MaryAnn Hall and her husband George, Susan Pooler and her husband Dana; four grandsons, Joshua (Liz) Pooler, Jeff (Michelle) Pooler, Billy (Laura) Hall and Samuel (Payal) Hall; seven great grandchildren, Lola Young, Owen and Noah Pooler, William and Caroline Hall, Lilah and Landon Hall; a brother, Albert Moore; two sisters, Patricia Cooke and Virginia Dagley; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visiting hours celebrating Marion's life will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, ME. A private burial will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery.
