Maurice "Dud" Caswell Obituary (1927

RANDOLPH -- Maurice 'Dud' W. Caswell, 84, of Randolph left us on November 6, 2012 to be with his beloved wife of 63 years, Myrtle who passed away in 2010. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by family at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta. Dud was born on December 3, 1927 in Gardiner, the son of Gertrude (Lewis) and David Caswell. Before becoming a resident of the Maine Veterans' Home in 2010, Dud lived in Randolph with his wife, Myrtle E. Caswell. He and Myrtle were lifetime members of the 'Randolph Gang' and both enjoyed being members of the Randolph community, especially monthly suppers at the Randolph Methodist Church. Dud was a loving and devoted husband and father. Throughout his life, family always came first. He was a little league and softball coach, for both his own children as well as grandchildren. He enjoyed annual ice fishing trips during school vacation in February as well as family ski trips to Bald Mountain and Saddleback. Of his many interests, bingo was one of his favorites along with cross country trips to Las Vegas. Beginning thirty-plus years ago, Dud and Myrtle started the tradition of a family camping trip each summer to Lily Bay on Moosehead Lake. The camping trip has become an important event for the family and a means to keep us close and connected. We will always thank them for this tradition and expect it to continue on for future generations to enjoy. Dud served in the Navy from 1945 to 1947 at various facilities in and around Washington D.C. After his military service, he worked at the Commonwealth Shoe Factory in Gardiner. His final employment was at the VA Hospital at Togus where he was affectionately called 'Dr. Caswell'.Dud is survived by three children, Terry Caswell and his wife Donna of West Gardiner, Marlene Lamoreau and her husband Robert of Pittston, and Lisa Thompson of Randolph. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, John Caswell, Sharon Stanley, Jeff Lamoreau, Jenny Lamoreau, Lisa Toye, David Thompson, and Alex Thompson and 12 great-grandchildren, Ashlynne Richard, Eric Caswell, Jordan Caswell, Coleman Lamoreau, Remington Lamoreau, Alyssa Stanley, Kasey Stanley, Kali Stanley, Benjamin Lamoreau, Lilian Toye, Hannah Toye, and Olivia Toye. He was predeceased by his wife, mother and father, his siblings Alice Albert, Susie Gilson, and Donald Caswell, and a grandson, Randy Caswell. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, November 13 in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
