Obituary

GARDINER - Melissa "Lisa" Wight, 60, of Weeks Road passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, surrounded by her family and loved ones at Central Maine Medical Center. Lisa was born on December 30, 1964, to Kenneth King and Dorothy Oullette of Gardiner Maine. She graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1982 and attended the University of Maine in Fort Kent. On June 13, 1987, she married Charles Wight, a collage classmate; together they had 1 child – Jacob Wight in 1994 which she often referred to as the best day of her life. Lisa worked for many years opening her home and caring for adults with disabilities, ensuring they maintained the quality of life they all should have through their years alongside her husband and son. Lisa especially enjoyed time with family, husband, son, grandchildren and siblings through many family gatherings, holidays and many informal gatherings at her father's house or other family members who lived on the family "stretch of road". Lisa was grateful for these moments and looked forward to seeing everyone at all of these gatherings. She was predeceased by her parents. Lisa is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charles; son Jake and wife Libby, Grandchildren Owen, Cole and newest grandson coming this spring that she was anxiously hoping to meet; stepmother Charlotte King; siblings April Presby and husband Mike, Kenneth King and wife Kathy, Rose Fields; brother-in-law's David Wight and his Wife Suzette and Michael Wight and wife Thersea; nieces, nephews and many other extended family members. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in her memory please consider donating to the Frensus Kidney Center of Gardiner where they became like family for many years of her life through her battle with End Stage Kidney Disease. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website, www.staplesfuneralhome.com
