Merton Llewellyn Larrabee
GARDINER - Merton "Larry" Larrabee of Gardiner, Maine passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024. He was the son of Llewellyn Larrabee and Mary Dunville Larrabee Patenaude.
He was an amazing husband to the love of his life, his late wife Nancy; father to his three children, Gary Larrabee and wife Brenda of West Gardiner, Maine, Linda Cooley and husband Richard of Milford, New Hampshire, and Timothy Larrabee and wife Line of West Gardiner, Maine; grandfather to his four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was the eldest son of six siblings, leaving behind a sister Edna Haskell and husband Larry of Randolph, Maine, a brother William "Bill" Larrabee and wife Judy of Brunswick, Maine, and a brother Everette "Iggy" Larrabee and wife Barbara of, Mansfield, Ohio.
Merton was predeceased by a sister Ann McLaughlin Greenleaf, and a brother Thomas Larrabee.
During his life, Merton enjoyed spending time with his family and camping. He and his wife Nancy especially enjoyed their annual camping trip to Salisbury Beach where the kids, grandkids and great grandkids would spend all or part of their two-week vacation with them. In his later years Merton was a member of the senior camping group, with whom he had many wonderful camping weekends and trips with his companion Judy Nichols. He also loved to watch NASCAR racing.
Merton was a huge part of our family, and as patriarch of our clan his absence will be felt deep in our hearts. We can however take solace in the knowledge that Merton has now finally been made whole again, is no longer in any discomfort, and is reunited with his wife Nancy, and they can forever together watch over the family they created.
Merton's memorial visitation will be held from 12 – 1 pm on Friday, May 17th, 2024, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, with a service to follow. A brief committal service will follow at the Fairbanks Cemetery in West Gardiner, Maine.
