Nettie May
Grady
Mar 27, 1946 — Aug 1, 2026
Chelsea
CHELSEA - Nettie May Grady, a devoted homemaker and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Chelsea, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, with all her loved ones by her side, at the age of 80.
Born on March 27, 1946, in Belfast, Maine, the daughter of Wilton, Jr. and Margaret Reynolds, Nettie was a graduate of Erskine Academy in 1964, where her journey of life truly began. Later that year in November of 1964, Nettie married the love of her life, Rodney Grady, beginning a partnership that would last for 58 years.
Nettie was a woman of fierce conviction, combined an unyielding strength, a stubborn will with a profound, protective devotion, and unmatched loyalty. She was a powerful force who held her opinions closely and never hesitated to speak her mind. She was unapologetically herself, living with a rare honesty that meant you always knew exactly where you stood with her. If you were wrong, she would tell you plainly—but the moment you needed her, she was your fiercest defender. Her tough nature was often the armor she wore to protect the people she loved. Beneath her stubborn exterior was an anchor of unconditional love. She was our nighttime anchor, always answered the phone to talk to us through life’s heaviest storms. Her family was her world, and she loved them firmly & fiercely. Though she was rarely always soft with her words, her love was unmistakable; Her love was felt most in her gaze—an intense look of pure devotion that framed every hug she gave. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, devoted & enduring love that will comfort us always.
…Although our hearts are heavy, we find solace & comfort knowing that Nettie is at Heaven’s track, by the side of her favorite horseman & has taken her seat at the finish line next to her lifelong beloved, Rodney (Zeke).
She was predeceased by her parents Wilton E. & Margaret (Rowe) Reynolds and brother, Frank Sprague and her sisters, Polly Newbert & Sally True and her husband, Rodney Grady.
Nettie is survived by her two loving children. Her son and eldest, Bill Grady & wife Anne; her daughter Pam Grady, all of Florida; Her only granddaughter Brandi & great grandson Jaydyn (JJ) Grady, both of Gardiner; her younger brother, W. Everett (Peanut) Reynolds & wife Sandra of Vassalboro; as well as many nieces, nephews & loved ones.
Together again in rest, Nettie and Rodney Grady will be remembered and honored for their final committal service. Details will be shared by Bill Grady via Facebook in the near future.
