Richmond-Patrick Briggs, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April
10, 2025.
He was born on October 20, 1950, in Augusta, Maine, to Madeline Jean and
George Briggs. A 1969 graduate of Cony High School, he went on to study Heavy
Equipment Mechanics at Southern Maine Technical College.
Patrick proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam
War before continuing his military service in the United States Army. He retired as a
Staff Sergeant on June 30, 1994, after a distinguished career. Following his military
retirement, he worked for Interstate Fire Protection for 15 years.
Patrick would most often be found enjoying life. His children and grandchildren grew up camping, fishing, and hunting. He also took them on many wonderful vacations. These adventures became cherished family traditions. He was always the first to say yes- yes to detours, yes to adventures, yes to joy. He went on all the rides with his children and grandchildren and could rarely say no to any of them. Patrick's last trip was a cruise to celebrate his and his wife's 50th wedding anniversary.
Patrick had a fondness for yard sales and flea markets and was always on the hunt for a good bargain to surprise a family member. He could be found out and about with most any of his family members. He lived for the shared moments; the laughter of his family, the thrill of a rollercoaster, a good campfire, and the quiet beauty of a sunset. To him, time spent together was the greatest treasure- and he gave us all so much of it.
Patrick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his
loving wife, Rita Briggs; his children Donald (Laura) and Jessica Stockmar (Jason); and his
treasured grandchildren: Brittany (Briggs) Doray, James Briggs, Destany Briggs,
Braedyn Stockmar, Jazmin Briggs, Izabell Briggs, Revyn Stockmar, and Torryn
Stockmar. His siblings Robert Briggs, Donald Briggs, Rusty Briggs and Gail Briggs
Bragg. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who have crossed his path throughout his storied life. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Laura Hoover and Linda Erving, and his brothers Butch "Everett" Briggs and Michael Briggs.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, April 25th at 12:00 p.m.
at the New Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. A
Celebration of Life will follow at Augusta Elks Lodge, 397 Civic Center Drive. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, ME.
