Obituary

Pauline Baker Cottle GARDINER - Pauline Isabel Baker Ferrell Canary Cason Cottle, 93, left us on Friday morning, Nov. 11, 2016, to join her family in the afterlife. She was born on March 11, 1923, in Randolph, on what was known then as F Street to Charles 'Bump' Baker and Cyrena (Henderson) Baker. Polly, as she was known by most, lived a very full and eventful life. She grew up in the Gardiner-Randolph area and after graduating High School served 12 years in the United States Army/Air Force reaching the rank of Sergeant which allowed her to travel to many destinations around this rock we call earth, California, Germany, England and Newfoundland to name a few. She touched many lives as a seamstress and has the honor of influencing the Army/Air Force to alter the length of the women's uniforms skirts while serving her country. She did all the alterations for Slosberg's clothing store, Corner Boot and Frank Wise until her mid 80's. She was proud of having participated in many studies that took place at Togas to assist in the health of future woman in the military. Her home at 39 Clinton St. was the cornerstone of the neighborhood for many lives having taken care of most of the area children. She was an avid Bingo player and managed to win quite often, mostly on the rip-off tickets. She was well known for her cooking and the best apple pie in the universe. She has left us with many stories of her childhood and of her life in the service. Polly, Aunt Polly, Grammy, Mom, you will be missed but never forgotten. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband George; four siblings, older brother Charles 'Bud' Baker Jr. and wife Lillian, younger sisters Margret 'Honey' and husband Emery 'Big Em' Malcolm, Katherine and husband Winfield Malcolm, youngest brother Linwood 'Skip' Baker; and daughter-in-law Cheryl Christie.
